Our Committee

There is something special about the Macleay community. Even after our children move on, many of us stay to support the opportunities that once shaped them.

Leane Harwoood

President

I became involved in the Kempsey Eisteddfod Society back when my daughter danced and, the society was in danger of folding. I assisted first with organising volunteers for the Eisteddfods and eventually migrated to becoming President.

I successfully led the Kempsey Eisteddfod Society as President until my voluntary resignation in 2023. I have returned rejuvenated and ready to move on with bigger and better things for our local community.

Dance Convener

Michael Beattie

Vice President

While I am a new addition to the Kempsey Eisteddfod Society, I can see the passion and dedication of my fellow committee members, that I am excited to work with.

I support local opportunities for our children and performers, and I am looking forward to seeing what this year brings to our shire.

Sponsorship

On the Melville Hall stage, my daughter first discovered a love of performing. While my daughter was competing at the annual Kempsey Dance Eisteddfod, I began volunteering, then in 2016 became a member of the committee.

My daughter later moved away to further her dance training, so I had an understanding of the limited opportunities available to regional kids. This led to developing a strong passion for ensuring Macleay dancers can perform, nurture their love of dance within their own community, and connect with performers from beyond the region.

Many young performers also embrace volunteering. It’s incredible to see them develop confidence, compassion and such a strong sense of pride for their community.

I have been involved with the Dance Eisteddfod since 2005 as the caterer, providing the canteen with its amazing home style menu, famous for its Carmel tarts, chocolate slice and nachos.

I eventually took over the cleaning tasks and stepped into the practical side, providing a happy experience for families at a successful Kempsey Eisteddfod.
